We all a need a safe space!

Safe space is a place or environment in which a person can feel confident that s/he will not be exposed to discrimination, criticism, harassment, or any other emotional or physical harm.

Psychotherapy is a safe space, where:

We set clear ground rules, we establish guidelines for respectful communication, active listening, and turn-taking. We encourage client to express themselves without fear of judgment. We create a neutral, comfortable environment where everyone feels physically and emotionally safe.

We cultivate trust. We foster a culture of trust and empathy. We encourage client to share their emotions and experiences openly. Active listening and validation are essential. We address power dynamics. We ensure that marginalized voices are heard and respected.

We provide emotional support. We create an atmosphere where people can express vulnerability without fear. We encourage kindness and compassion to clients. We educate clients. We help clients to understand the purpose of the safe space and their role in maintaining it. We discuss confidentiality and boundaries.

We facilitate inclusivity. We ensure that the safe space is welcoming to diverse identities, backgrounds, and experiences. We avoid language or behaviours that exclude anyone.
