Family/Couple Therapy
Family or Couple therapy is a form of psychotherapy that involves working with families and/or couples to nurture change and development. It views problems within the context of the family system and emphasizes the understanding and the improvement of interactions between family members.
Family therapy is often focused on resolving issues such as communication problems, marital conflicts, parent-child conflicts, or dealing with the impact of external factors such as illness, substance abuse, work or other environmental stressors in the family unit.
In the case of couples, this type of therapy is designed to help couples understand and resolve conflicts to improve their relationship. It focuses on communication, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills. It often addresses issues like intimacy problems, infidelity, emotional distance, and major life changes. The goal is to enhance the emotional and physical connection between partners and to equip them with tools to navigate future challenges together.
Family and/or Couple Therapy looks at issues in a systemic way. It views changes in terms of the system of interactions between family members. A change in one person’s behaviour is bound to influence the behaviour of all other members of the group or the group dynamics in its totality.
Family Therapy advocates that behaviour is interactively influenced and that change in one type of interaction brings change to the whole system. This type of therapy is conducted by highly trained therapists that specialize in dealing with group dynamics and aim in fostering healthier and more functional relationships within the family unit or between partners.
